Show and Tell Gallery June 22, 2002

We had very good participation in our June Gallery with 10 presentations encompassing some 30 turned pieces.


            Brian Rosencrantz brought "Box of Thorns" made of ebonized Maple covered with rose and bougainvillea thorns. Al Gruntwagin brought 3 Norfolk Island Pine bowls finished with Deft for a high gloss finish. Carl Spinnler showed a large Norfolk Island Pine bowl the was finished with 6 coats of Tung Oil and a Cuban Mahogany bowl  that also had 6 coats of tung oil.  Lynn Escher displayed her Mahogany Birdhouse that was about 3 inches in size.  Mike Mills had 2 bowls to display, one was 6 inches in diameter and 3 inches high - Acacia and the other one was 8 inches in diameter and 4 inches high - Mahogany both were finished with Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil.  John Jackson brought 2 bowls, 2 vases and 4 hollow forms turned from Fl Mahogany and Rosewood.  Frank Gaddon's Ambrosia Maple bowl , 12 inch diameter and 6 inches high was finished with Danish Oil and wax.  Richard Chesler displayed his bowls of Mahogany, Oak and Ficus with  assorted finishes. Carl Schneider had been busy and brought in three bowls, the largest was 17 inches diameter Eucalyptus finished with Mineral Oil, the second one was turned from Florida Holly about 8 inches across finished with Danish Oil and a 4 inch Walnut vase also finished with Danish Oil. Not to be left out was Harry Rosen with his collection of shoehorns (6 in number) made from various woods and in various shapes and styles.
